Let’s talk about picking the perfect amount of Retique It® for your project!

Hey friend,

Let’s be real for a sec. Have you ever stood in front of your project, paintbrush in hand, and thought, “Wait… do I have enough of this stuff?” Same.

We’ve ALL been there—mid-project panic is real. But don’t worry, I’ve got you. Whether you’re flipping a flea market find or giving your kitchen a full-blown glow-up, knowing what size to order is going to save you time, money, and (let’s be honest) your last nerve.

Choosing the right amount of Retique It® doesn't have to be a guessing game. Whether you're refinishing a nightstand or giving your kitchen cabinets a total refresh, our size guide makes it easy to pick the perfect amount of product for your next project.

And because Retique It® covers twice the area of traditional coatings, a little really does go a long way.

Your first step is to measure your project.

So… How Do You Measure Square Footage? (Because Math Is Hard)

I promise it's not that bad. All you need is a tape measure, a calculator (or your phone), and about 30 seconds.

How to Measure Square Footage Without a Headache

(Don't worry it's the easiest math you will do all day!)

Here’s the quick and dirty:

  1. Measure the width of your surface (in inches).
  2. Measure the height (also in inches).
  3. Multiply the two numbers.
  4. Then divide by 144 to get square feet.

🎯 Example:
Your dresser is 48” wide and 30” tall.
48 x 30 = 1440 ÷ 144 = 10 sq ft.

Need help crunching the numbers? Try the Square Footage Calculator from CalculatorSoup —perfect for estimating surface area for your Retique It® project.

Boom! You’re basically a mathlete now!

But hang on—don’t stop there. Since you're measuring surface area, you’ll want to repeat that process for every side or section of your project that needs product. Got a dresser? Measure the top, the front, the sides—even the drawer fronts if you’re doing those too.

Once you’ve got your total surface square footage, multiply it by the number of coats you’ll need. Plan for at least two coats—sometimes three. Trust me, one coat rarely does the trick. Especially if you’re working with rough textures, lightening a dark surface, coating something extra porous, or want to practice your graining technique before you start your project.  (which is always a great idea)
